November 2023 BoT Spot

Welcome to the November BoT Spot!

Gratitude is something we have talked a lot about lately. Personally, I have expanded my practice of gratitude having heard the theme of, “Be thankful for it ALL!” at GPCSL Sunday Celebration, Love Notes, and from other CSL Centers. It has been an interesting experiment for me to extend my practice of gratitude beyond the obvious and into experiences and people I don’t naturally feel gratitude for. Intellectually, I can understand that Good is in all, but to actually FEEL the gratitude deeply wasn’t coming easily when contemplating things that on the surface didn’t seem so great. I have felt my mind shift and my heart open this past month however while learning and practicing to “Be thankful for it ALL”.

For this and so much more, I appreciate our community and spiritual practice of Science of Mind. The idea that people can be given tools and support in awakening to their spiritual magnificence and creating lives filled with grace, prosperity, and good at every turn through engaging with GPCSL and Centers for Spiritual Living internationally, fills my heart with abundant joy…tearful joy.

So, yes, I want to thank you! Thanks to that small but mighty group of folks who met thirty years ago with a vision for the Greater Philadelphia Center for Spiritual Living. Thanks to all who have come to our community since. Your presence in our community, taking classes, sharing your Sunday mornings with us, and supporting the Center financially, helps GPCSL thrive and attract others who can more fully live, love, and learn from a spirituality that works. I certainly have. Thank you.

Mark your calendars for our upcoming Annual Winter Solstice event. December 16th, at the United Church of Christ at Valley Forge in Wayne PA – Click here for more information. An evening of unity, learning about and honoring all paths, music, and tasty treats afterward!!! You may be tired of tasty treats at this particular moment, but I am pretty sure you would say “Yes please!!!” to the rest!!! It is a wonderfully uplifting experience and a great evening to invite your friends and family to! I hope to see you there!

In Gratitude for it All!

Nov. 28, 2023: From the Pen of Dr. Maxine

As we complete the month of November, many of us are already making holiday preparations and feeling inspired by the lovely decorations and sparkling lights we see all around us. It seems we barely finish Thanksgiving when cards, gift lists, decorations, and event planning get underway. As many of us begin to bring Christmas into our homes, so others are making plans for Hanukkah, as it occurs much sooner this year.

Whether we will make Plum Pudding or Latkes, decorate a Noble Fir or set up the lights on a Menorah, let’s choose to move through this beautiful season peacefully, focusing more on the spirit of it than the to-do lists. We can choose calmness over concern, wonder rather than worry, and enter into the Joy of the season for ourselves and others.

You may join us in person this coming Sunday, December 3rd, from the Inspiration Café, and advance reservations may be made by going to our website and registering on Breeze (by clicking here) or by contacting Linda O’Neill. This first Sunday in December will focus on maintaining harmony and peace, along with our celebrations, in order to experience the joyful meaning of our holidays. We prefer sweet Grace to a hectic pace! I’ll be speaking on, “Holiday Happiness; Sacred Sanity.” To join our Celebration virtually, just click on the orange Watch Live button on our website, www.cslphilly.org at 10:30 A.M. We always archive past Celebrations and Love Notes, as well as providing important information about upcoming events, so scroll through our pages to learn more.

Our Practitioners are standing by to assist you in moving through any challenges in health, prosperity, relationships, or creative expression, and any of them will be happy to work with you. They are listed on the Practitioner page on our website, with their contact information.

With great love and respect,

Dr. Maxine

However you and your dear ones may be celebrating Thanksgiving this week, Rev. Mike and I are celebrating YOU and are very grateful that you are a part of our Beloved Community. It is not only at this time of year that we express our gratitude for you, for our Center, and for this teaching, but throughout the year. Our blessings continue to expand, as we live and practice the Science of Mind. Even after Thursday, we shall all continue feeling thankful for so much good in our lives and continue counting our blessings.

Remember that, “Gratitude is Causative” and generates an ever-increasing abundance of every nature to begin to flow steadily in our lives. Let’s keep our dear families and friends on top of that list, and watch our relationships deepen and sweeten. Let’s bless even the smallest good we have and see it expand into greater and greater good. Let’s give thanks for everything that makes our lives more wonderful and fulfilling. Let’s also remember to bless all people everywhere, knowing Divine Love and Infinite Wisdom are present and awakening them to their divine reality.

Our very special Thanksgiving Sunday Celebration with Django, Emily, and Jeff was very beautiful, and our next grand and glorious offering will take place on Saturday, December 16th, as we present our Annual Winter Solstice at the United Church of Christ, 45 Walker Road, Wayne, PA 19087. Inspiring inter-faith presenters and outstanding music will lift and delight our hearts, so be sure to put this on your calendar.

This coming Sunday, November 26th will be live-streamed from the Inspiration Café, with Rev. Mike speaking on, “Keep Counting Those Blessings.” To join our Celebration, just click on the orange Watch Live button on our website, www.cslphilly.org  at 10:30 A.M. While you are waiting, you will find interesting information on the other pages, so scroll through and find upcoming events, as well as archived presentations and Love Notes.

We offer spiritual tools for human conditions, and whenever you wish to reach out to one of our Practitioners, any of them will be happy to work with you. You’ll find them listed on their page on our website, with contact information, and you may get in touch with any of them for spiritual support.

With great love and respect,

Dr. Maxine

Whether we utter a simple prayer or offer passionate praises, our hearts are surely filled with gratitude as we enter into these divine activities. Approaching the Thanksgiving holiday, we often begin counting our blessings, mindful of the many reasons we have to give thanks. This gratitude tends to expand, touching others, and opening their hearts to such feelings of appreciation, as well. It is wise to dwell in this sweet, thoughtful place, rather than to become too caught up in the business of so many holiday preparations and activities.

What a marvelous Celebration we have planned for you this coming Sunday at the Sheraton Great Valley Hotel in Frazer in the Oxford Room!! Our Thanksgiving Celebration begins at 10:30 A.M. and we will be blessed with music from Django Klumpp, classical guitarist, as well as Emily Szal and Jeff Masino, offering songs and leading our community singing. Enjoy our Bountiful Bouquet ceremony, as well as a new ritual: The Gratitude Tree. The music will surely lift your hearts and align you with the sweet, serene opportunity to enter more deeply into this special season. My talk, “If the Only Prayer You Ever Prayed . . .” will be brief, and the service will conclude at 11:45 A.M, in order to continue with a marvelous musical event in the same location. Although the morning will not be livestreamed, you may watch it later in the day by clicking the orange Watch Live button on our website, www.cslphilly.org Additional information can be found as you scroll through the site and notice upcoming classes and events.

An exiting addition to this Sunday is, “An Afternoon of Classical Guitar with Django,” a one-hour concert beginning promptly at Noon with our beloved Django Klumpp, a virtuosic musician returning home to Malvern for the holiday from Rochester, New York, where he is an esteemed performer, teacher and adjunct professor. We are so blessed to have his inspirational, uplifting, heart-opening music, so be sure to plan to be with us and bring family and friends.

Our Practitioners may be found on their page on our website where you may contact any of them for spiritual support.  There are times we may become too close to a problem and require the assistance of a Professional Practitioner to bring us to a new perspective.

With great love and respect,

Dr. Maxine
