Monthly Archives: November 2022

Nov. 29, 2022: From the Pen of Dr. Maxine

“It is better to light just one little candle than to stumble in the dark! Better far that you light just one little candle, all you need’s a tiny spark! If we’d all say a prayer that the world would be free, the wonderful dawn of a new day we’ll see. And if everyone lit just one little candle, what a bright world this would be.” Song by Roach/Mysels

As we complete the month of November and enter the sacred days of December, our attention turns to the Spirit of the holidays: Solstice, Hanukkah, Christmas, etc. All are involved with light and inspire us to align with the Holy Presence within and around us, as we awaken to what is ours to do in each celebration of illumination.

The One Light which illumines every heart and brightens all creation is the Light of Christ, the Illuminating Presence of the Divine, and It abides within us all. In recognizing our joyous part in bringing joy to the world and inviting peace to abide on earth, we know we must first establish a deep connection with the Divine Love and Infinite Wisdom within us. It is from this place that we bring forth the Light that warms, illumines, heals, and reveals the Truth that sets us all free.

This Sunday’s 10:30 A.M. Celebration will be livestreamed from the Inspiration Café in Paoli, PA and may be accessed by going to our website, www.cslphilly.org and clicking on the Orange “Watch Live” button. You may also view previous talks and Love Notes on the site. Our new theme for the month of December is, “Lighting Up the World,” and my talk on December 4th will be, “Just One Little Candle.”

We offer several delightful opportunities to celebrate this Holy Season together. Be sure to attend our Annual Winter Solstice Celebration at 7:00 P.M. on Saturday, December 17th at Inteprod, 2583 Industry Lane, Eagleville, PA 19403. Doors will open at 6:45 P.M. The theme is, “Grace in the Night; Joy in the Light,” and our featured musician is Jim Wade. The next day, Sunday, December 18th, we meet for our Morning Celebration at the same site and are grateful to Suzanne and Rick Smethers for inviting us to use their facility for both events.

Plan to enjoy our Christmas morning Celebration in your “jammies,” as we stream it to you, allowing everyone to relax into your personal celebrations at home. Finally, please join us on December 31st at the AVE Clubhouse in Malvern, arriving by 6:45 A.m., when Rev. Mike will lead us at 7:00 A.M. in a beautiful World Peace Meditation, corresponding with all other gatherings around the world at Greenwich Mean Time.

Any of our Practitioners listed on the website’s Practitioner Page are available to help you through any challenges or answer questions for you.

With great love and respect,

Dr. Maxine

Nov. 22, 2022: From the Pen of Dr. Maxine

When we speak the words of thanksgiving to the God within, knowing “before they ask will I answer,” there is something in this attitude of thanksgiving that carries us beyond the field of doubt into one of perfect faith and acceptance, receptivity  . . . realization.  Appreciation, gratitude and thanksgiving  — the motive power which attracts and magnifies the hidden potentialities of life. ~  Ernest Holmes, Science of Mind, p. 637

Gratitude truly is causative, for whatever we truly appreciate will grow in value and bring an ever-greater increase in our good.  The more we bless and praise everything and everyone, the sweeter and richer our experience becomes.  It is reported that Jesus expressed gratitude at the beginning of his prayer, and we know that this “giving thanks in advance” is a powerful process that deepens faith and expands our consciousness.

Another way to deepen our appreciation is to share our bounty with others, and we have an opportunity this Sunday to help support the Tredyffrin and Eastown Care (“T&E”) organization which provides valuable assistance to those in the area in temporary need.  We will have a special container for receiving monetary gifts that will become gift cards to help with food and clothing.  GPCSL is partnering with this organization at holiday time, so let’s make a difference in our community. Everyone’s gratitude will increase!

Please join us at 10:30 A.M. this Sunday, November 27th, as we meet for a wonderful in-person Celebration at Hyatt House Hotel, 240 Mall Blvd. in King of Prussia for a very special after-Thanksgiving gathering, including a talk on, “A Celebration of Prosperity,” and our very special  “Bountiful Bouquet” ritual. It will also be live streamed for those not able to be present. Going to our website, www.cslphilly.org and clicking on the Orange “Watch Live” button takes you right to our event. You may also view previous talk and Love Notes on the site.

Whenever you may find yourself in need of spiritual support, you may contact one of our Practitioners listed on the website’s Practitioner Page, and any of them will be happy to talk or meet with you.

With great love and respect,

Nov 15, 2022: From the Pen of Dr. Maxine

I am now surrounded by all love, all friendship, all companionship, all health, all happiness, all success. I AM ONE WITH LIFE. I wait in the silence while the Great Spirit bears this message to the whole world. ~ Ernest Holmes, Science of Mind, p. 299

As we continue developing the art of appreciation, we find that the Law of Increase expands our good in every area of living. The greater and more faith-filled our expectations, the more perfectly we demonstrate a life of freedom and joy. Choosing to focus on Truth, rather than error, Goodness, instead of condemnation, we draw the best from situations and relationships. As the Danish proverb advises, “Look for the King in the man, and he shall come forth.” (The same applies to beholding the Queen in anyone!)

It is this higher vision that empowers us to form friendships and human connections that are valuable, authentic, and mutually respectful and supportive. Yes, it requires we abandon our criticism and replace it with real appreciation for the unique way Spirit expresses through each person. Imagine a world in which people chose the wisdom to see “Jove nodding behind Jove,” as Emerson suggests we view the Presence of the Divine behind each of our neighbors. Our sacred, internal work allows us to await the results “with cheerful expectancy,” as Troward wisely states.

Tune in this Sunday, November 20th, as we livestream from the Inspiration Café in Paoli, PA. Rev. Mike will return to the podium and inspire us with his talk on developing and appreciating relations, entitled “Cheerful Expectancy.” Please go to our website, www.cslphilly.org and click on the Orange “Watch Live” button. Past talks and Love Notes may be viewed there, as well.

Our Practitioners are found on the Practitioner Page of our website and may be contacted for spiritual support, via Spiritual Mind Treatment, for any challenges you may be facing or simply to lift and heal consciousness.

With great love and respect,

Dr. Maxine

Nov, 2022: November BoT SPOT

Welcome to November’s BoT Spot

As I wrote this, it was election day. I felt emotional as I cast my vote that evening after work. The welling up of emotion surprised me, but when I thought about it, it made sense. On voting day, I had the opportunity to express my vote for a future that most closely aligns with my personally held vision. Each of us has a vision for ourselves, our communities and the future. Subsequently, we may differ in our vote. . . it is an individual thing. Our politics is not the point . . . my message is that we all have the opportunity to vote and that is a beautiful thing! And, as John Szal so eloquently spoke about at our annual business meeting in October, “What are you voting for?” when it comes to the Greater Philadelphia Center for Spiritual Living?

It is GPCSL’s Intentional Giving Program season, and as such . . . it is worth mentioning that in 2023, The Greater Philadelphia Center for Spiritual Living turns 30! That is 30 years of providing a path for people to improve their lives with “Spirituality that Works”, helping them to reconnect with Source and live their best life. Personally, I have navigated deeply challenging times with a greater degree of grace and ease because of my exposure to the Science of Mind philosophy and the support of the community’s members and friends. I am eternally grateful for this, and it is one of the reasons I give my 3Ts (Time, Treasure, Talent) to the Center. In doing so, I am casting a vote for the vision I hold in which the Center helps others, as it has helped me and people dear to me, for many years to come.

Each of us has the opportunity to cast a vote for the future of the GPCSL community by participating in the 2023 Intentional Giving Program (IGP) at the level that feels good. That level will differ from one person to the next . . . it is an individual thing! Collectively, the difference is really made when more of us participate in the program, because it helps the Center plan for the future in a fiscally successful way. It gives us the insight needed for responsibly investing our resources on things like a new space for classes and Celebrations, events, staff, and hmmm, I don’t know…a 30th Year Anniversary Party??? I will vote for that!!!

With love and deep appreciation,

Edie Janik
