Dec. 22: From the Pen of Dr. Maxine

Born into time and experience, unnoticed, unseen, yet alive and aware, the Christ Child incarnated in human form, taking the likeness of men and women . . . ~ Ernest Holmes, Science of Mind, P. 360

Last night’s Virtual Winter Solstice Celebration 2020 was such a beautiful testament to the expression of the Universal Light within all people, as we were blessed to hear from many faith traditions and to be uplifted by wonderful music! If you did not tune in then, you may still find it archived on our website, and I invite you to view it again and again. We are deeply grateful to all our enlightened presenters and to Jeff Masino for producing the final, magnificent product!

There is so much for which we are thankful, as we move toward Christmas this week and the conclusion of the year next week.  In the midst of a great deal of darkness, we continued to bring the Light and to share it with others.  This, of course, is an ongoing process, and one in which we are privileged to participate. The great gift of the illuminated Christ Consciousness, called by many names, yet fully present within each person, continually shines Its warmth and love. Let this be our focus, as we prepare to release the past with gratitude and embrace the New Possibility before us. Yes, Peace on Earth is still a personal and universal achievable opportunity, and our commitment is strong. Keep shining that Divine Light!

Our virtual Sunday Celebrations continue each week at 10:30 A.M., and we invite you to join us for this live stream gathering.  Our theme for the month has been, “Celebrate Everything,” and we conclude the month, and the year, with “Endings and Beginnings.”  Logging on to our website, www.cslphilly.org you’ll be directed to You Tube or Facebook. Archived Sunday Celebrations and Rev. Mike’s and my daily “Love Notes” may be seen at any time via the Live Stream button.

If you desire spiritual support, simply reach out to one of our Practitioners or Practitioner Interns on the website. You will find that any of them will be glad to work with you.

With great love and respect,

The Love of the All Good is within me and through me. That Love goes out to meet all who come into my atmosphere.  It radiates to all and is flowing through all.  My Love within me is perfect.  Thy Love within me is perfect.  Ernest Holmes, Science of Mind, p. 522

Now that we are happily in the midst of the holidays (and I trust it is “happily” and not “haphazardly”) we do well to remember that these truly are Holy Days.  They are made Holy by our clear intention to bring more authentic love into our lives and into the world. As His Holiness, the Dalai Lama proclaims, “Be kind whenever possible, and it is always possible.” Whether standing in line at the Post Office, picking up last minute gifts, interacting with a clerk, or passing by a neighbor’s house, we are always able to smile, share a kind word, ask a compassionate question, or offer support.

When Love becomes our main objective, It guides us in every wholesome direction, teaching us how to lift hearts and heal minds.  It is not a commodity to be attained but a way of life to be lived, expanding our own awareness of the Beloved which indwells us and every sentient being, and inviting Its increase and healthy flow.  This is often called, “The Season of Love,” as it is the time of year we love giving gifts, and the greatest of these gifts, most certainly, is Love.

Be with us for our virtual Sunday Celebrations, beginning at 10:30 A.M., as we live stream our weekly gathering.  Our theme for the month is, “Celebrate Everything,” and this week’s talk is, “The Season of Love.”  Simply log on to our website, www.cslphilly.org and you’ll be directed to You Tube or Facebook. I am happy and complete, today and forever.  Within me is that which is Perfect and Complete.  It is The Spirit of all Life, Truth, and Action.  I am happy in the certain knowledge of this Inner Light. I cannot be sad nor sorry, but must radiate Joy and Life, for Life is within me now.   ~ Ernest Holmes, Science of Mind, P. 511

As much enjoyment as we can receive from external décor, seasonal music, and twinkling lights, it cannot compare to the true delight we are able to feel when connecting closely with that inner Light of Joy that lives within us all.  With such focus on the Interior Life, we may appreciate the peripheral activities, while expressing deep gratitude for the Infinite Joy of Life Itself.  Everything we perceive outside is typically a reflection of what is within us, so we can feel thankful when external beauty reminds us of the Internal Reality.

Even in difficult situations, it is possible to feel joy, because Joy is an essential attribute of God, and you and I are individualizations of that Divine Presence.  We can actually be “carriers,” creating a “contagion of cheerfulness,” simply by revealing our inherent divine nature.  Let’s let ourselves be lifted in those wonderful feelings wonder, as we become radiant instruments of Divine Joy, for ourselves and others.

Join us for our virtual Sunday Celebrations, beginning at 10:30 A.M., as we live stream our weekly gathering.  Our new theme for the month is, “Celebrate Everything,” and this week’s talk is, “The Source of Joy.”  When you log on to our website, www.cslphilly.org you’ll be directed to You Tube or Facebook. Ye are the light of the world.” Man is the candle of the Lord.  How important then that this light be kept trimmed and burning with the oil of pure Spirit, through the wick of peace and joy.  Ernest Holmes, Science of Mind, P. 430

It is through an ever-deepening faith that we illuminate our own consciousness and are able to share that Light with others.  This is definitely an inside job, as faith is not a commodity attainable from outside of ourselves and certainly not within the world of uncertainty and upset. The path involves a refusal to become caught up in external appearances, and a deeper dive into the eternal, changeless Spirit within us. It is here that we see more clearly and more truly.

Our Jewish friends are preparing to celebrate Hanukkah, commemorating the purification and restoration of the Second Temple of Jerusalem in the 2nd century, B.C.E. The sweet story is told of how the simple faith of a widow contributed to its success by her willingness to give her last bit of olive oil when only one uncontaminated flask was found in the Temple.  A supply of oil for eight days was necessary to burn the sufficient time in the Temple’s Menorah, and, regardless the historical accuracy of this one person, it was the faith of the community that invited this continuous light.

Although Hanukkah is not considered the most important of all the Jewish holy days, it does share an important lesson about increased faith resulting in greater light. It is not the “Jewish Christmas,” even though it is observed in December; yet, it is lovely to see the lights of various menorahs, along with the lights of Christmas trees and outdoor decorations making a beautiful contribution to our joy. Let’s each find our way into that sacred space of holy faith within our hearts and become true beacons of Light to all.

We cannot cure the world of sorrows, but we can choose to live in joy.   ~ Joseph Campbell

Yes, the Thanksgiving celebration feels quite different this year from those we have known in the past. It is unlikely that we will gather with all the family, except on Zoom calls, our dinners will probably be simpler, and we won’t be watching a Macy’s Parade; yet, there is no limit to the amount of joy and gratitude we can feel.  The external confusion needn’t keep us from inner clarity, there can be no sense of loss when we enter deeply into the Divine Delight within us, and worry flees in the face of the solidarity of Spirit.

As December approaches, and holiday preparations begin, we make our choices from a place of love and wisdom, simultaneously inviting Joy and Peace into our lives and to the world itself. It is still possible to honor our traditions while making appropriate adjustments to former customs and routines.  It is the love and conscious intention we put into each activity that creates the enjoyment we desire for everyone, and our flexibility and ingenuity can show us new, treasured activities.

Let’s enter into this Holy Season willingly and purposefully, determined to let the Joy of God fill our hearts and teach us what truly is meaningful.  Let each of us be a clear and loving instrument of happiness and gratitude.  We can make a beautiful difference for ourselves and everyone in our lives.  Happy Thanksgiving from Rev. Mike and me, and welcome to your authentic experience of Joy!

Invite your friends to join us Sundays at 10:30 A.M., as we live stream our weekly virtual gathering.  Our speaker this Sunday will be Rev.
